The Ateneo Video Open, now on its tenth year, is an annual nationwide film competition
open to collegiate-level filmmakers. It is organized by the Loyola Film Circle, the Ateneo de Manila University's premiere film organization.
The event aims to highlight the effective use of aesthetically pleasing films as media for social discourse. There are four categories:
short narrative, music video, documentary, and experimental.
From the pool of hundreds of entries, films will be narrowed down by the LFC selection committee to a short list of finalists, whose films will then be shown in satellite screenings across Metro Manila (see
the calendar for venues, dates, and times). A distinguished panel of judges will select from this pool of finalists the winners, who will then be awarded with trophies and cash prizes
(Best Experimental - 5,000 PHP, Best Music Video - 5,000 PHP, Best Documentary - 8,000 PHP, and Best Narrative - 10,000 PHP) during the AVO Awards Night (see
the calendar for the venue, date and time). All events are free of charge and open to the public.
AVO's audience generally include college students in Metro Manila, as well as young film directors and producers looking for fresh talent right out of the hatchery. Collectively, AVO reaches out to about 500 students in Metro Manila, and 100 students in surrounding regions.
